Sacred Centering: Savor the Nectar of Life

Join us for a magical experience in the Italian countryside of Umbria. This retreat will be a unique and deepening experience, surrounded by the sacred energy of the ancient landscape. In the autumn season, the golden light, fresh morning air and smell of ripening olives, home cooked food, and the best wine in Italy create an unforgettable and profound experience. This retreat includes yoga classes for all levels, meditation, pranayama, seasonal local meals, guided trips through the surrounding region and much more. In the Borgo della Marmotta resort, in the medieval village of Poreta, participants will discover the pleasures and treasures of Umbria in an authentic, slow food and slow living Italian environment.

As if you’ve stepped back in time into an Italian countryside dream, you will enjoy lounging in the cobblestone courtyards, frolicking in the beautifully maintained grassy valley underneath ancient trees, soaking your body in the modern pool, and dining family-style outdoors surrounded by the beautiful foliage. This unique setting gives us an opportunity to move slowly, rest deeply, and breathe in the spiritual energy of the Spoleto Valley. Imagine enjoying shivasana to the local sounds of church bells ringing. Other offerings include a communal living room space and a dining room with fireplace, two yoga practice spaces, and shop with local organic goods produced in the valley.

Regional & Retreat Information

Umbria is known as the spiritual green heart of Italy. It was the land that inspired historical spiritual figures such as Saint Clare and Saint Francis of Assisi. We will visit Santa Maria degli Angeli where the first church of the Franciscan Order still stands and the city of Assisi, with its beautiful frescoed Basilicas. Above Spoleto we will enter the sacred woods and the grottos of Monteluco, a very special and ancient forest of the original Umbri where St. Francis worshiped as well as many pantheists before him. Along with exploring the heart and culture of this incredible region, Debbie and Ashira will bring the amazing experiences back to the mat with yoga, meditation, and breath work practices as well as offering informative and inspirational talks. In this idyllic setting participants will have the opportunity to rest, restore, and engage in a full list of unique offerings.

The facility is situated in a small village called Poreta outside the well known town of Spoleto, Umbria. The Spoleto valley is rich with castles, medieval villages, and panoramic views that stir the senses and fill the heart. Because it is a small village, Umbria affords the kind of tranquility that is perfect for yoga and meditation practice, while being easily accessible for transportation from Rome and surrounding areas.
